Useful Treadmill Exercise Tips

When you think about exercising on a treadmill, you might think that it’s all about running and sweating. But in actual fact, there are a lot more ways to use a treadmill to lose weight. You don’t have to set it going really fast and try and keep up before flying off the end of it! Let’s look at some treadmill exercise tips that can help you get the most of your workout routine:

You Can Walk As Well As Run – The first thing to note is walking is a great exercise to do on a treadmill. Especially if you haven’t worked out in a while. The key is to be consistent with your exercise routine. So you should do 45-60 minutes everyday where possible. You could also split up each day and do cardio one day, then weight training the next. That way you are building muscle as well as burning off the excess fat. It’s a great combination for getting fitter and stronger in the fastest time possible.

Keep Focussed – There are many treadmill exercise tips but the main thing is to keep your mind focussed, as it’s easy to become bored. Music is a great thing to listen to whilst exercising as it takes your mind off the exercise. Often you can forget just how long you have been working out when you’re listening to music.

Keep Good Posture – Another important tip is to make sure you stand upright as best you can and not slouch down. You will be doing a lot of walking and you don’t want to get bad posture and possibly back ache. So keep yourself upright and looking forward at all times.

Don’t Hang On – If you’re tempted to hold on to the sides, don’t. You burn a lot less calories when you hold on. So keep your arms swinging by your side and it will help you to balance to.

Maintain A Steady Pace – You will burn more calories if you can maintain a steady pace for longer. If you start fast, then get tired and have to really slow down you won’t be able to exercise for as long. So get a rhythm going and stick to it.

Keep Hydrated – Always have a drink of water with you when exercising on a treadmill. Keep drinking when you get thirsty. It helps maintain your metabolism as you are sweating.

Can You Adjust The Incline? – The more expensive treadmills allow you to adjust the incline and make it steeper. This is a great way to really increase your exercise. Just do it a small amount at first and get used to it. Then you can keep raising the incline.

Hope you enjoyed these treadmill exercise tips and they will give you some ideas then next time you jump on your treadmill!
